General Info

SURREY LEAGUE DIVISION ONE MATCH 1, WIMBELEDON COMMON, SATURDAY 12th OCTOBER.

LOCATION.The start/finish is located next to The Causeway and West Place on Wimbledon Common. The nearest postcode is the Fox and Grapes pub on camp Road, SW19 4UN, but a more accurately, the app. What3Words is; bridge.quest.bought.

THE COURSE.

The course is similar to that used by Belgrave Harriers in the past except that it now bypasses the Windmill Road by going around the Windmill car park before going down into the woods. Here the course divides between long and short. The paths on Wimbledon Common tend to be hard and gravelly in October although there is a section of earth paths in the woods. Recommended footwear; short spikes, trial shoes or racing flats if it's not too muddy in the woods.

RACE TIMINGS. Note; For a more manageable timetable in the young athletes races, boys and girls will be on the course at the same time, with girls starting five minutes after the boys.

 11.00 - U13 B, 11.05 - U13 G, One Short lap (approx. 3.3km)

11.30 - U15/17 B, 11.35 - U15/17 G, One Long Lap (approx. 4.5km)

12.15 - Senior Men, One Short then One Long lap (approx. 7.9km)

13.15 - Senior Women, Two Short laps (approx. 6.6km)

GETTING THERE.

We have been asked NOT to use the Windmill carpark, it gets very congested on a Saturday and you are liable to be unable find a place. Parking is free along The Causeway, but again this road tends to get very full. There are some parking meters nearby but far better to use public transport.Train to Wimbledon Station, then either walk or jog to the course, or a 93 bus to the Wimbledon War Memorial. The 93 also goes to Tibbet's Corner and Putney Station, so you can also come from that direction.

TOILETS.There will be four temporary toilets situated near the start and there are also toilets at the Windmill about three quarters of a mile away.

FIRST AID.There will be two First Responders and an RRV between 10.00am and 3.00pm.

ADDITIONAL HELP.The match has been organised jointly by Belgrave Harriers and Hercules Wimbledon together with race Referee David Clarke. If your club is able to provide any additional help with officiating or marshalling please let us know.
